SAVE THIS MANUAL FOR FUTURE REFERENCE
Your SonicTape Distance Finder has been engineered and manufactured
to our high standards for dependability, ease of operation, and operator
safety. When properly cared for, it will give you years of rugged, trouble-free
performance.

WARNING!
READ AND UNDERSTAND ALL INSTRUCTIONS. Failure to follow all
instructions listed below, may result in electric shock, fire and/or serious
personal injury.
CAUTION:
Use of controls or adjustments or performance of procedures other than
those specified herein may result in hazardous radiation exposure.
CAUTION:
The use of an optical instrument with this product will increase eye
hazard.
The laser guide radiation used in this product is Class II with < 1mW and
650 nm wavelengths. These lasers do not normally present an optical hazard
although staring at the beam may cause flash blindness.
Avoid direct eye exposure when using the laser and do not project
the laser beam directly into the eyes of others. Serious eye injury could
result.
Do not remove or deface any product labels. Removing product labels
increases the risk of exposure to laser radiation.
Do not use the product in a position that may cause anyone to stare
into the laser beam intentionally or unintentionally. Serious eye injury
could result.
Do not operate the product around children or allow children to oper-
ate the product. Serious eye injury could result.
Do not operate the product in combustible areas such as in the pres-
ence of flammable liquids, gasses, or dust.
Always ensure the laser beam is aimed at a surface without reflective
properties. Shiny reflective materials are not suitable for laser use.
Handle the product with care. Treat it as you would any other optical
device such as a camera or binoculars.
Avoid exposing the product to shock, continuous vibration, or extreme
hot or cold temperatures. Damage to the product and/or serious injury
to the user could result.
Save these instructions. Refer to them frequently and use them to instruct
others who may use this product. If you loan someone this product, loan
them these instructions also.
SAFETY RULES
NOTE: Before operating the product for the first time, remove and discard
the plastic strip protruding from the battery compartment. Also, remove hang
tag and store with operating instructions for future reference.
The SonicTape Distance Finder is designed to measure distances accurately,
easily, and quickly.
NOTE: Measurements are calculated from the battery compartment cover.

buttons simultaneously and hold for several seconds.
To measure distance:
Position the product so the laser lens is square to the target object, then
press and release the distance button to make a single measurement.
For continuous measuring, press and hold the distance button as you
move to different target areas.
To calculate area:
Position the product so the laser lens is square to the first target object;
press and release the distance button to make the first measurement.
Press and release the area button. Area ( ) will show briefly in the
LCD display, then your first measurement with display again.
Press and release the distance button to measure distance to the sec-
ond target object. The measurement may be taken more than once, if
needed.
Press and release the area button again to calculate area.
To clear old measurements or error (
) conditions, do one of the
following:
Take another measurement.
Press and hold the area button for several seconds to reset.
OPERATING TIPS
Any object that is within a maximum angle of ± 5º of the target zone will
be recognized as a target and will be taken into account in the measure-
ment that is displayed.
It is easier to obtain an exact measurement when measuring the distance
to a wide, flat, straight surface. Other surfaces may cause the distance
finder to display an error.
The target area should not be a small surface, irregular shape, or absorb-
ing material. If it is, place a piece of cardboard at the target location and
measure to that surface instead.
The distance finder cannot measure through glass.
To change the unit of measurement from feet/inches to meters, depress
the unit button.
Always keep your fingers clear of the sonic cone.
